Consider the area shown in (Figure 1). Suppose that a = h = b = mm. Locate the centroid y of the shaded area. Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units. It's easier to figure out tough problems faster using Chegg Study. Unlike static PDF solution manuals or printed answer keys, our experts show you how to solve each problem step-by-step. No need to wait for office hours or assignments to be graded to find out where you took a wrong turn.

For example, if you measure the width of a book using a ruler with millimeter marks, the best you can do is measure the width of the book to the nearest millimeter. You measure the book and find it to be 75 mm. Moments of inertia of areas are used extensively in "strength" to calculate stresses and deflections in beams. In American Customary Units we calculate stress in pounds per square inch (psi) so it is the common practice to use areas (and derived properties) measured in inches. Conveniently, most American drawings have areas dimensioned in inches.

Land area calculation. Calculating areas of irregular polygons is a non-trivial task without sophisticated surveying instruments. One way to calculate areas of such plots, is to break them into a number of triangular-shaped plots as in image shown below and then find the area of each triangle using Heron's formula and sum them up.   For each section line the cut area and the fill area is determined. The volume between two sections is determined as the average area of the two sections multiplied by the distance between them. This calculation is repeated for all of the sections, and the values are added together to get the total cut and fill volumes. GRID METHOD.

Calculation of Areas in Surveying | Simpson’s Rule. In one of my previous articles, I discussed Midpoint Ordinate Rule and Average Ordinate Rule in detail with an example and listed out various important methods used for the calculation of areas in Surveying.

History and Examples. Some of the first known writings about area came from Mesopotamia, says Mark Ryan in "Geometry for Dummies, 2nd Edition." This high school math teacher, who also teaches a workshop for parents and has authored numerous math books, says that the Mesopotamians developed the concept to deal with the area of fields and properties.

Consider a uniform magnetic field passing through a surface S, as shown in Figure below: Figure Magnetic flux through a surface Let the area vector be, where A is the area of the surface and its unit normal.

The magnetic flux through the surface is given by A=A ˆ G n nˆ Φ=B BA⋅=BAcosθ GG () where θ is the angle. Drinking water supply to people in rural areas is increasingly oriented towards the search for groundwater.

However, these resources, which were once of good quality, are currently threatened by various sources of pollution points and diffuse. The objective of this study is to map the intrinsic vulnerability to groundwater pollution of the Lobo watershed in Nibéhibé.

The measurement is done in square units with the standard unit being square meters (m 2). For the computation of area, there are pre-defined formulas for squares, rectangles, circle, triangles, etc. This article discusses various methods for calculating or measuring the area of the land like simple geometrical method, planimeter on the map, using measuring wheel, using the graph paper, using GPS instrument, using aerial photographs, satellite imaging etc.

Land needs to be measured for various reasons like prior to purchase, when doing stock taking, building a boundary wall, dispute with a. Surface area is its analog on the two-dimensional surface of a three-dimensional can be understood as the amount of material with a given thickness that would be necessary to fashion a model of the shape, or the amount of paint necessary to cover the surface with a.

Thus, surveying has two similar but opposite functions: (1) the.
